Vidor is the middle of the run. It sits on I-10 between the Beaumont interchange and the Orange inspection station, which means most of the trucks we meet here were not planning to stop in Vidor at all — they made it this far and no further.
The stretch either side crosses low ground. Pine Island Bayou and the Neches bottomlands flood, and after heavy rain the shoulders soften faster than the pavement suggests. North on TX-12 the road runs up toward Mauriceville through timber country, where the traffic changes from interstate freight to log trucks and the shoulder disappears entirely.
